The Gamma metal detector is one of the latest and greatest from the world-renowned Teknetics metal detector brand. Released at the end of 2008, just in time for the holiday season, the Gamma boasts state-of-the-art detecting features housed in the most modern of detector designs.
The large control housing features rubber-button control interface, numerical depth readout, an intuitive menu system and a running depth indicator. These tools combine to help even the most novice detectorist hunt like a professional!
A step above its brother, the Teknetics Delta 4000, the Gamma has more user-adjustable features. Manual Ground Balancing will allow you to selectively tune out those pesky minerals that give false signals while 79 levels of Adjustable Discrimination will keep those pull tabs out of your finds collection while increasing your number of gold rings! The Gamma also has “Multiple Notches,” selectable by categories, so you’ll be able to select pre-programmed discrimination settings and spend your time digging treasure – not programming your metal detector!
Another advanced feature on the Gamma is the “Ground Mineralization Readout” which will describe what you’re encountering in the ground. This is extremely helpful as you ground balance your machine in various terrain. Wet, salty beach sand, and highly mineralized black sand are two common conditions that will highly benefit from this feature.
Additional features include adjustable sensitivity, a two-digit numerical target identification system, and two search modes: Discrimination Mode and All Metals Mode.
The Gamma transmits a low frequency of 7.8kHz to alert you to literally every type of treasure buried beneath the surface. A running depth indicator will show you how deeply buried treasure lies, while the audio pitch will change in proportion to the strength of the target’s signal (which means the louder a target, the closer it is!). All those features combine with the bonus of fully static, push-button pinpointing capability to make this metal detector do it all for you – and fast!
Only one 9 Volt battery is required to operate this new, impressive and affordable machine and it won’t just die on you in the field – it features a battery life indicator to make sure you’re prepared to treasure hunt for hours on end!

I am new to detecting but I was fortunate to have had the chance to use a few detectors of varying brands before deciding on the Teknetics gamma. I was leery at first because there were absolutely no reviews out there to help me decide, I’m glad I did. I like this detector for several reasons.
1--The 99 levels of discrimination? Target ID. Eesides the depth and ID scale, you have a numerical value also. So when the detector tells me I’m on a nickel if the ID number is 57 it’s definitely a nickel! Sometimes I dig anyway just to learn what the number is.
2--Ground balancing!! I do this as soon as I hit the site. I've used a competitor’s 250 and man was that thing was noisy!! GB helps the machine "see" what’s there without all the noise.
3--The screen. Man, that thing is HUGE! It is much bigger than I thought it would be, and the readout is so easy to see. I'm not squinting to see some little indicator.
4--Extremely light. At just over 2 lbs, this thing is a feather!
5--Pin-pointing. The volume swell over the target is helpful rarely do I have to dig anywhere but under the center coil.
6--4 tones. I stated on a machine with no other indicators other than ton, no depth, no ID. It’s nice to have tone ID as well.
7--VOLUME CONTROL!!!! Try listening to that beeping/dinging all day long at FULL VOLUME!!
8-- 2 types of headphone sockets. One less adapter to carry around or loose!
Overall, I could have gone with a cheaper machine but I’m glad I spent the extra Bucks. I've found gold, I've found nickels with ease, and I’ve also found a lot of pull tabs(darn things!!) but for the extra features like big screen, 99 ID discrim, weight, and others, go for the Caddy Baby!! I would definitely recommend!!

I'm new to detecting but I like the Gamma I bought. I got started when my friend let me tag along and use his old Garret Coinmaster 300. I wasn’t hooked but I enjoyed it. I then got to use his Garret Ace 250 and while it’s a nice machine it wasn’t for me. I was too noisy and I couldn’t get very good readings. Yes, I adjusted the sensitivity.
While looking for my own machine, I happened across the Teknetics 6000. It had the features I was looking for, especially the 99 levels of id & discrimination, but the ground grab has proven extremely useful too! I have only had the Gamma for 3 days now and I love it. I found my first gold ring with it today!! This detector is very light and the screen is HUGE! It is much bigger than I thought, 4&1/2" diag. It is also very easy to read and understand. The four tones are very helpful since that is what I got used to with my friends Garrett Coinmaster 300. I don’t have one target of choice as I will hunt anything but when things get trashy it is super easy to set the discrimination, and you can choose what you want to leave out in varying degrees thanks to the 99 levels, which also come in handy for identifying your target!! There are still some mixed signals, like the darn pull tabs, but that’s just par for the course, and at least it’s minimal. All in all this is a very like-able machine. It’s light, easy to use, and easy to understand. I know it’s expensive but if you can spring for it its definitely worth it!

Teknetics T2 Review.
Read the manual and the T2 is very easy to use and the reset time is extremely fast between objects! With the T2 I am able to find the smallest hammered coin up to 8 inches deep! I do general detecting and find the T2 finds all the goodies on all fields. I have found Hammered coins Saxon Pendant's Scottish Kilt Brooch18th C and many many coins.
I bought the Teknetics T2 after many hours on the net looking at various makes models and prices. Properly confused and very weary a friend suggested I buy the T2 and I came across several websites blowing its horn. Then I looked at 2nd hand T2 machines thinking if they are good there won’t be any for sale, and I was right I could not find a single one. So I dipped in my reserves and bought one. After several outings I am convinced I bought the best machine money can buy. With the right settings the T2 should be illegal! And here they are Sensitivity 70 Discrimination 5 and tone 2+ With this setting you will find more goodies than most other detectors and you can use it everywhere stubble pastures and leveled ground (Not for beach use). You will be able to hold your own everywhere just listen for the sounds. A high pitch sound is a good target a low grunt is iron. If you hear a high pitched sound and a grunt almost at the same time remember the T2 reset time is a part of a second, Dig it. When in doubt DIG but the T2 wont lie to you I dug many of the “dodgy” signals and found winners and yes some large pieces of iron because the electric conductivity is higher. But when the signal bounce, meaning move between high and low signals never giving the same reading on the meter then it is iron or rubbish dig a few convince yourself. Trust the T2’s signals and listen carefully practice, bury a few different metals like silver copper and a gold ring and swing over it several times a day! Leave them buried so the ground can settle pour water over it; it helps to settle the ground. Then before you go out swing the T2 over your targets and listen and remember the sounds! Then you are ready to go and find the goodies! Do this; I know boring routine, as many times as you can till you know the sounds in your ears. When you do this keep your eyes closed and just listen ignore the meter because the meter can be wrong! It’s like golf! Golf is Muscle memory so is detecting Sound memory once you know the sounds and what they represent then you will be good at finding the goodies! I had many great finds in 5 months following this routine. Buy one you will not be sorry! Oh yeah I do not work for Teknetics I do not know anyone that do and I am the most horrible customer anyone can have I just love to complain! Its deep it’s very fast and it will make you look good! The T2 is the best machine out there for all terrains and will give you hours of fun.

This is an excellent machine. When you assemble it, the first thing you notice is that it's weight...or lack thereof. This thing is super light. I have swung this detector more many hours straight without ever an ache or pain. The ability to discriminate within a metal range is very cool. For instance, iron could be 0-39. This detector lets you set discrimination within that range. Typically nails read 5-12, so I set the discrimination to 13. Still detects iron, but objects with signals above 13. This is the only detector I have seen that runs on ONE 9v battery.
And it lasts A LONG time. I probably get 18-20hrs battery life. The manual and semi-automatic ground balancing works excellent. On the wet sand, set to 0-10 and off you go. If there is one thing I would change, the on-off switch is located too close to the other controls. I have inadvertently turn it off while attempting to pinpoint. No biggie though.
I would still highly recommend this detector for general detecting needs.

Being a beginner, I found the detector easy to ground balance, which is the hardest thing to figure out. Even the manual ground balance was fairly easy to learn. I would recommend this item for novice and professional use. Personally, I'm looking for gold and meteorites and think it will work for both.

I actually found it easy to ground balance this unit. What do you think about that?
