The three knobs on the MP5 allow you to adjust the sensitivity of the machine (to detect larger, deeper targets or focus on smaller ones buried closer to the surface), as well as the discrimination (to ignore junk and find only treasure) and volume adjustment (that coordinates with both the external speaker and/or headphones). These features combine to allow you to find coins that are lying just beneath the surface as well as those that are buried 10” to 3ft. down!
